Yesterday, October 22 saw Apple complete their planned 40 megawatts solar project in the province of Sichuan, China. This project having been completed is said to be able to provide more than the amount of electricity needed by all Apple's offices and retail stores in China. This project is just the beginning of Apple's initiative towards a greener economy in China. Apple's next step is to complete their 200 megawatts projects planned to further increase their goal towards 100% carbon neutrality, which they had already achieved in the US. With this project, it is believed that it will produce enough energy to power up about 265,000 homes in China for a year.

Having these projects finished soon help in avoiding over 20 million metric tons of gas pollution into the atmosphere from this year till 2020. This, according to apple, equals to taking off about 4 million passenger vehicles from the road all year round. Lisa Jackson, Apple's VP of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives was quoted saying that these projects go beyond Apple's operations in China to help their supplier adopt clean renewable energy because being responsible, protecting air and water, and driving clean energy are at the heart of Apple's commitment to China.

Apple has been seen to embark in a greener way to operate for the past years ever since being condemned for using fossil fuel based energy. Earlier years have seen them being condemned for its supplier chain having polluting habits. Last year, Apple banned two chemicals from its Chinese suppliers' factories over concerns of it being harmful towards their worker's health.

Since Tim Cook became their new CEO, they have started and have since been generating their own clean energy, and on the process bought credits from other clean energy providers as well. To this day, Apple boasts having powered 100% of their operations by renewal energy in USA and now China, and at least 87% of their operations worldwide.
