Apple just released their third beta for the iOS 9 last Wednesday, July 8, and they have also introduced a new app that curates personal news content for iOS users.
The News app specifically caters to an iOS-friendly layout. According to Apple's press release, it will have an outstanding magazine layout that can be easily customized based on the user's preference. The user can choose which topics to be featured in the app. Apple also noted that these preferences can be saved without the conflict of "compromising your privacy." This new custom design is called Apple News FormatTM, which allows publishers to create their own layouts.
Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services of Apple, Eddy Cue, said the news app will seamlessly deliver the stories the user want to read every day without the clutter and the concerns about privacy.
"We already have nearly 20 publishers representing more than 50 titles, joining us, including Condé Nast, ESPN, The New York Times, Hearst, Time Inc., CNN and Bloomberg," said Cue.
With Apple's News app, the user will have an individualized "For You" tab that lists all the stories of everyday, according to the user's preference. It also has a favorite section with the top sites the users added to the favorite list. The Explore tab allows the user to see more topics and channels all over the web.
Publishers like ESPN and Condé Nast have shared their thoughts about the new app.
"ESPN fans are incredibly engaged in the way they consume our content, so the more vibrant experience we can offer, the happier they'll be," said John Skipper, President of ESPN Inc. and Co-Chairman of Disney Media Networks.
President of Condé Nast, Bob Sauerberg, also added that "premium content deserves a premium mobile experience and the News app delivers that."
Meanwhile, sharing is also customized in the News app. The user can add a story to the "Saved" section while he shared it with his community via the Share Sheet.
Safari also offers this feature that allows the user to add RSS feeds of the publisher so it can be added to the news.
The News app is only available in the iOS 9 Beta 3.
