A number of Xperia smartphones have already received Android Lollipop and the T-Mobile Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z1s may be next in line to get the update.
Sony has promised a while ago to upgrade its entire Xperia Z lineup to the last major version of Google's popular mobile operating system, i.e. Android Lollipop. The company has made significant efforts in this regards, pushing Lollipop gradually to an increasing number of devices and providing regular updates on the process so users know what to expect and when.
Although the latest information doesn't come directly from Sony, it now seems that the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z1s on T-Mobile are all set to get an Android Lollipop update soon.
More specifically, T-Mobile's software update page now reveals that the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z1s are in testing for the new update.
Both devices were listed as in the "manufacturer development" stage back in March, and now they appear to have reached the next stage - "T-Mobile Testing Software Version: Android 5.0 Lollipop."
"During this stage, the device will go through T-Mobile certification process testing to make sure you get the best quality software possible," the carrier's support page further explains.
Moreover, Sony Xperia Z3 owners on T-Mobile will also receive support for LTE Band 12 (700 MHz) with this update, and the carrier says this support will arrive through a "software update coming May 2015." This suggests that the Android 5.0 Lollipop is just around the corner and may roll out this month, at least for the Sony Xperia Z3.
T-Mobile has offered no exact rollout details for the Sony Xperia Z1s and the Xperia Z3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update, but all signs point to an imminent release. The last major version of Android will bring a number of neat improvements, bug fixes, and new features to the table, aiming to enhance the overall experience and maximize the smartphones' potential.
More information should become available shortly regarding the Android 5.0 Lollipop update rollout for the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z1s on T-Mobile, and we'll keep you up to date as soon as we have additional details. For now, it's good to know the update is currently in testing and should arrive soon.
