The Samsung Plus program page officially lists the much-rumored Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, confirming the existence of the rugged handset.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active has leaked extensively as of late, and it's expected to launch soon as the tougher, more durable version of the Galaxy S6 flagship. Samsung has been offering a rugged version of its flagship ever since the Galaxy S4 Active launched a couple of years back, has followed up with a Galaxy S5 Active last year, and is expected to continue the tradition this year as well.
The purported Samsung Galaxy S6 Active has already leaked in a couple of images recently, and some alleged specifications of the device have also surfaced online. Its very existence was unconfirmed and based on speculation, however, at least until now.
Samsung has not made an official announcement just yet, but its Samsung Plus insurance program page contains a clear reference, confirming the existence of the Galaxy S6 Active version (see image above).
Intriguingly enough, the Samsung Plus page lists the Galaxy S6 Active with a launch date of April 10, which has passed with no actual launch of the device. Samsung might have planned to release the Galaxy S6 Active alongside the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge and ultimately changed its mind, or something else came up. At the same time, the fine print does mention that launch dates are the earliest possible dates based on global release, but are nonetheless subject to change.
Based on leaks and rumors so far, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is expected to sport a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels just like the flagship, and pack an in-house Exynos 7420 processor paired with 3GB of RAM. The handset is further rumored to come with 32GB of internal storage capacity, a 16-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front shooter. Some rumors also suggested that it may feature microSD support for additional memory, something the Galaxy S6 flagship doesn't offer.
Lastly, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is expected to launch in the U.S. on AT&T, but no release date is available at this point. Nevertheless, the listing on the Samsung Plus insurance program page clearly confirms the handset's existence, and it may not be long until it makes it to market.
