Sony has officially taken the wraps off the highly-anticipated successor to its Xperia C3, introducing the new-generation Xperia C4 and Xperia C4 Dual.

The Sony Xperia C3 was quite a popular smartphone for the mid-range category, as it offered a good performance at an affordable price point. Rumors of an incoming Xperia C3 successor codenamed "Cosmos" have been making rounds for some time now, and the Xperia C4 even leaked in a few images, along with specs, over the past couple of months.

The rumors and speculation now come to an end, as the Sony Xperia C4 has finally made its official debut, alongside a dual-SIM version that sports the same specifications.

"Following the success of Xperia C3, we are proud to introduce Sony's evolved PROselfie smartphone," Tony McNulty, Vice-President, Value Category Business Management at Sony Mobile Communications, said in a new press release on Wednesday, May 6. "Xperia C4 caters to consumers that want a smartphone that not only takes great photos, but also packs a punch. Benefiting from Sony's camera expertise, the 5MP front-facing camera with wide-angle lens lets you capture perfect selfies, while its quality display and performance features provide an all-round advanced smartphone experience."

The PROselfie Xperia C4 will make its commercial debut in early June in various regions worldwide, in both single-SIM and dual-SIM variants, but Sony has yet to offer pricing details.

In terms of specs, the new Sony Xperia C4 features a 5.5-inch IPS display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and packs a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek MTK6572 processor under the hood, clocked at 1.7GHz and paired with Mali 760 graphics and 2GB of RAM.

Other specs include 16GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card support for additional memory, and a 2,600 mAh battery that promises up to eight hours of video playback. The Sony Xperia C4 further boasts a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter with a 25mm wide-angle lens for high-quality selfies. Both the front and the rear camera come with LED flash. As expected, the handset is LTE-enabled and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

The Sony Xperia C4 will be available in black, white, and green color options, but it remains unclear for now just how much it will cost. Sony should offer more information closer to launch, and we'll keep you up to date as soon as it does. In the meantime, check out the demo video below to see the Sony Xperia C4 Dual in action.
