Microsoft officially took the wraps off its Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL mid-rangers back in early March at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015, aiming to attract more budget-conscious shoppers to its platform. The company wants to focus on affordable devices for now in order to boost its market share, and its latest Lumias stand proof of such endeavors.
The Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL went up for pre-order on the Microsoft Store in the UK back in mid-March, and the Lumia 640 is now officially available for purchase from the company's online store.
The Microsoft Lumia 640 sports a price tag of £169.99 (including VAT) unlocked and SIM-free, but seems to be available only in black and orange color options for now. The smartphone debuted in multiple color options at the MWC, and Microsoft might add more avatars soon.

Moreover, Microsoft is also throwing in a free one-year subscription to Office 365 to further sweeten the deal.
Upon unveiling the smartphone, Microsoft said the Lumia 640 was a "productivity workhorse," touting that it's "for the doers."
"Lumia 640 takes productivity to the next level by giving you greater flexibility to accomplish more on the go, making it a perfect choice for those who wish to increase their productivity without breaking the bank or for people who wish do more with their smartphones," Microsoft said in its original announcement in early March.
