AT&T is now rolling out a software update to its Motorola Moto X (second generation), bringing the smartphone to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

Motorola smartphones have been among the first to get a taste of the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop, even before some Nexus devices got the software treat. Carrier versions, however, typically take a while longer to receive software updates.

The second-generation Moto X has proved to be quite a successful smartphone, raising plenty of interest since its debut. The highly-customizable smartphone boasts notable improvements on all fronts compared to its predecessor, offering good specs and features at a reasonable price tag. The handset continues to grow in popularity, and an update to the latest version of Android makes it even more appealing to prospective buyers.

AT&T has now started rolling out the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop to its version of the Moto X, bringing a host of new features and improvements to the smartphone.

"We are excited to announce a new software update for Moto X (2nd Generation) by Motorola. This update brings AndroidTM 5.0.2 Lollipop to your phone along with other improvements," AT&T notes on its release notes for the second-generation Moto X.

"AndroidTM 5.0.2 Lollipop is one of the most significant in recent Android history. It improves your experience in many areas including visual style and how you interact with your device."

The update will bring the much-touted Material Design, with its neat visual changes and fluid animations, as well as a number of other treats such as improved lock screen notifications, an enhanced multitasking interface, better security, ART runtime, battery optimizations, a default flashlight in the Quick Settings menu, and many others.

The update is rolling out now over the air (OTA), but the process is gradual and it may take a while to reach all devices.

It's interesting to see that AT&T is rolling out Android 5.0.2 Lollipop to the second-generation Moto X, while leaving other flagships out in the cold. The HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5, for instance, have already gotten a taste of Lollipop on other U.S. carriers, but AT&T has yet to join the party.

Nevertheless, if you own an AT&T Moto X (second generation), keep an eye out for the update. If you already received Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, drop by our comment section below and tell us all about it.
