HTC reportedly has a new phablet in the works, as a new report claims a super-sized HTC Hima Ace Plus is en route.

While at first it seemed that larger smartphones were deemed to fail, as many thought consumers would find them cumbersome, recent years have proved that phablets are in fact quite popular.

Samsung was the first one to pioneer this trend, pushing the boundaries of smartphone sizes with its original Galaxy Note back in 2011. The Galaxy Note came with a 5.3-inch screen that was considered huge at the time, but the device was nonetheless widely successful and started a whole new trend on the smartphone market. Not only did Samsung continue to launch phablets that proved increasingly successful, but other companies followed suit and launched super-sized smartphones of their own.

Even Apple and Google joined the phablet party in 2014, further proving that the category is going strong. Apple launched a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus that became widely popular, while Google released its Nexus 6 with a massive 6-inch display.

HTC already showed interest for the phablet market with a few devices, and the company is apparently gearing up to launch a new phablet called the "HTC Hima Ace Plus," according to a new report. So far, the "Hima" codename has surfaced in association with the upcoming HTC One M9, which indicates that the Hima Ace Plus phablet may be based on the next-generation HTC flagship smartphone.

The news comes from Portuguese publication 4GNews, which claims to have some details regarding the specifications of this purported phablet. Citing an unnamed source, the report reveals that the HTC Hima Ace Plus will boast a 5.5-inch QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels at 534ppi, and the screen will also reportedly be bezel-free.

Under the hood, the purported Hima Ace Plus phablet will allegedly pack a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage capacity. Other leaked specs include a 20-megapixel rear camera and an UltraPixel front-facing shooter. The phablet may reportedly come with a fingerprint scanner as well, though the source was not certain, while a 3,000 mAh battery will keep things up and running. The device will likely replace the existing HTC One Max phablet, which made its debut back in 2013.

Lastly, the report further claims that HTC will likely announce its Hima Ace Plus phablet sometime in August or September, which would put it in direct competition with the next-generation Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Apple iPhone 6s Plus.

With no concrete evidence or official confirmation, however, take this news with a hefty grain of salt.
