The recently-launched Microsoft Lumia 535 Windows Phone smartphone suffers from a touchscreen bug, but a fix is now rolling out through a new update.
Soon after Microsoft acknowledged that a touchscreen bug was indeed affecting the Lumia 535 handset and promised to provide an update to fix the issue, the company has already started rolling out the software in select countries.
"Hey, we have started rolling out a new software update for Lumia 535 (RM-1089) in selected countries. You can find the update instructions & follow the availability details from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en/mobile/support/software-update/wp8-software-update/," Microsoft employee "armagon" announced on Monday, Dec. 22, on the Nokia Discussions forum.
"The update is currently available mostly in Europe + South Africa. However this is only the first wave, more countries/variants should rollout out early next year," armagon added in a subsequent post.
The change log for this update includes touchscreen performance improvements, extended availability for digital assistant Cortana in more markets, easy data connection switching on or off from the Action Center, scheduling time for installing updates, as well as a number of other stability and performance improvements.
This touchscreen bug fix for the Lumia 535 is apparently part of the latest Lumia Denim update, which started rolling out last week in India, China, and Europe.
As a reminder, the Microsoft Lumia 535 launched as the first smartphone to ditch the "Nokia" branding for its name, and came as an entry-level device targeting the budget segment of the market. The handset stirred lots of interest, but reports revealed a touchscreen sensitivity issue and inconsistent touch input tracking.
Some users managed to get this issue under control by switching off the Screen Magnifier feature from Settings > Ease of Access, but a proper fix was expected to become available via an update, which has now started rolling out.
To get the latest update, Microsoft Lumia 535 owners must be running Windows Phone version 8.10.14219.341 build 02054.00000.14485.370x. The update is rolling out over the air (OTA) in select regions, which means that it may take a while to reach all devices. As previously mentioned, a wider rollout to more countries and variants is scheduled for early next year, but no specific date is available at this point.
