The Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) has again reached an important milestone proving its success, as it was just named the fastest-selling console ever in Australia.

Ever since its launch, the Sony PlayStation 4 has brought unprecedented success to Sony. Within just a few months on the market, the PS4 had already significantly outsold rival Microsoft's Xbox One console, and has repeatedly done so ever since.

Now, nearly one year since the PlayStation 4 was released worldwide, new data reveals that the console's popularity keeps soaring. It appears that the PS4 is the top choice Down Under, as it has become the fastest-selling console ever in Australia.

The information was provided by NPD Group Australia, which looked at sales data up until Oct. 26. According to its data, the PS4 is now the fastest-selling console in the history of Australia, and Sony couldn't be more proud of it.

"As Australian gaming and entertainment providers gear up for the busiest sales period of the year, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia is today celebrating a huge milestone, with PlayStation 4 named as the fastest selling video games console of all time in Australia," Sony boasted in a press release on Thursday, Nov. 6.

This impressive achievement comes as Sony is preparing to celebrate 20 years of PlayStation in the Australian market in early 2015, and proves that the brand's success has only increased over the years. Moreover, NPD Group Australia also notes that not only is the PS4 the fastest-selling console in Australia's history, but it also remains the No. 1 next-generation console.

NPD Group Australia further points out that the Console Hardware category has more than doubled in value in the country since the release of the 8^th Generation Hardware in 2013, and the Sony PS4 has accounted for an impressive 44 percent of the total category value since its launch last year.

"As PlayStation powers into its twentieth year in Australia, we couldn't be happier with our position with PS4 at the top spot of the interactive entertainment industry," further touted Michael Ephraim, Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia and New Zealand. "I've watched this business grow over the 20 years and have had the pleasure of being part of the monumental change in innovation and category growth of which PlayStation has historically been a key driver of. PS4 is now the fastest selling home console in Australian history and this reflects the passion of our players, our partners and the quality of the PlayStation offer.

NPD Group Australia doesn't mention just how many PlayStation 4 units Sony has sold in Australia, but it's safe to assume that the figure is quite impressive.

This achievement follows the great success the PlayStation 4 has seen in major markets worldwide, including the U.S. and the UK.
