The HTC One M8 for Windows is ready to end its Verizon exclusivity, as the smartphone will hit AT&T on Nov. 7.
HTC saw great success with its stylish and powerful HTC One M8, and the company wanted to build on that success by launching more versions to suit different tastes and preferences. The original HTC One M8 came with Google's Android mobile operating system on board, but the rise of Microsoft's Windows Phone OS prompted HTC to offer an option on this front as well.
The HTC One M8 for Windows is virtually identical to its Android counterpart, save for the operating system. The handset launched back in August as an exclusive to Verizon Wireless, selling for $99.99 when agreeing to sign a two-year service agreement.
The smartphone is now ready to end its exclusivity with Verizon and hit AT&T on Nov. 7, when it goes on sale both online and in the carrier's retail stores, AT&T has announced. Moreover, T-Mobile has also confirmed that the HTC One M8 for Windows is "coming soon" to its network, but has yet to offer exact launch and pricing details. For the moment, the Uncarrier has a preregistration page for the device, allowing interested customers to sign up and receive notifications as the handset gets closer to launch.
As a reminder, the HTC One M8 for Windows retains the highly-acclaimed design of the original model, as well as its top-notch specs and features, and comes with the latest Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 out of the box, complete with Cortana. The handset raised plenty of interest upon its announcement, and wider availability should boost its popularity even further.
"Created with a zero-gap unibody, the curves and balance of the smartphone make it a pleasure to hold and use," AT&T touts in its announcement. "It comes with Cortana, the super cool personal virtual assistant build around you. She's the only smartphone assistant who learns your interests and can set reminders by people, in addition to time or location."
For those unfamiliar with the device, the HTC One M8 for Windows sports a 5-inch Super LCD3 display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage capacity, a microSD card slot for additional memory, a 4-megapixel "UltraPixel" main camera, and a 5-megapixel secondary shooter. A 2,600 mAh battery keeps things up and running, while Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 with Cortana runs the show on the software front.
AT&T will be offering the HTC One M8 for Windows for $199.99 on a two-year contract, $27.92 per month with AT&T Next 18, $33.60 per month with AT&T Next 12, and $669.99 without a contract.
