The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) has added Samsung Galaxy devices and KNOX to its Commercial Solutions for Classified Program Components List, concluding that they meet the highest security standards.
The NSA's approval for Samsung Galaxy devices and KNOX, the company's security suite, prove that security is paramount and they rise up to the most stringent expectations.
The Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) program only accepts devices that meet the NSA's security standards, and may not necessarily fall in line with large government orders for Samsung.
The devices approved under this NSA and Central Security Service program include the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Tab S 8.4, Galaxy Tab S 10.5, and the Galaxy ISPEC Virtual Private Network (VPN) Client to the CSfC Program Component List.
"This accomplishment is the direct result of Samsung's successful testing and certification under the U.S. government's Common Criteria Mobile Device Fundamental Protection Profile (MDFPP) and VPN Protection Profile (VPNPP) programs. The listed Samsung devices are available for use with classified government networks and data. All devices and capabilities incorporate security features powered by Samsung KNOX," reads the press release on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
"The inclusion of Samsung mobile devices on the CSfC list proves the unmatched security of Samsung Galaxy devices supported by the KNOX platform," adds JK Shin, CEO and President of IT and Mobile Business at Samsung Electronics. "At Samsung, we continue to address today's increasingly complex security challenges, and are committed to delivering the most reliable mobile platform satisfying the needs of professionals in all industries, from SMBs and enterprises to governments and additional regulated markets."
This listing may boost the relevance of Samsung devices with KNOX as alternative to other products such as BlackBerry devices in markets such as government and enterprise, where data security plays an essential role in purchase decisions.
As a reminder, Samsung KNOX is an Android-based security platform that aims to enhance the security of the open-source mobile operating system. KNOX-enabled devices allow users to easily switch between a personal mode, in which they can store data, and a KNOX Workspace container with extra security to protect data.
According to Samsung, Galaxy devices based on KNOX are now the first consumer mobile devices NIAP-validated and approved for U.S. Government Classified Use.
