The new Moto G is now available for purchase unlocked, for its full $179.99 retail price, from a Best Buy store near you.

Motorola stirred quite some waves last year with its original Moto G, delivering a very capable smartphone at a surprisingly budget-friendly price point. The new Moto G (2014) is even more impressive than its predecessor and it's still affordable.

The new Moto G is now available in either black or white from Best Buy. No special deals are in place for now, but the unlocked model has the same $179.99 price tag as it does directly from Motorola.

The second-generation Moto G sports some notable improvements over its predecessor, offering quality and performance that are usually above the budget level. At the same time, it still retains many things from the original Moto G.

Similarities between the two generations, for instance, include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, paired with 1GB of RAM, a good 2,070 mAh battery, and the latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat.

The new Moto G, however, comes with a larger 5-inch display and an 8-megapixel camera, marking a step up from its predecessor. On the other hand, the new Moto G comes with only one configuration, and that's 8GB of internal storage capacity, and only with 3G connectivity. The new iteration does, however, have a microSD card slot for additional memory, whereas the original Moto G only gained microSD support in the subsequent 4G LTE version. At the same time, the original Moto G is available either with 16GB of internal storage capacity, or with 4G LTE and microSD, but not both.

It's also worth pointing out that the new Moto G will not work on CDMA networks, which means that it will not be compatible with Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Virgin Mobile, or any other CDMA carrier.

"Please contact your carrier prior to purchasing to confirm your carrier will support voice and data on this unlocked GSM device," Best Buy warns.

With that said, those who would like to purchase the new Moto G unlocked from Best Buy can find the black version of the smartphone here, and the white model at this link.
