The gold-hued Samsung Galaxy S5 is headed to Vodafone in the UK, as the carrier snagged the exclusive rights to offer this color option in the country.
When Apple first introduced its latest iPhone 5S flagship in a new gold color option, it not only came up with a very popular choice, but it also started a new trend. Golden-hued smartphones have proved to be very popular among consumers, and Samsung is not one to miss out on a new trend.
The recently-unveiled Samsung Galaxy S5 is the company's new flagship smartphone and it comes in several color options, including the much-touted gold version. After plenty of rumors and speculation, Vodafone UK has now officially announced that it will start taking pre-orders for the new Galaxy S5 on March 28 and it will have the exclusive on the gold model. The carrier will be offering the smartphone in other color options as well.
"Earlier this month, Samsung unveiled its latest and greatest flagship, the Galaxy S5, to the world. At Vodafone Social we were pretty excited to be able to say that we'll be stocking the new Android powerhouse (which will be available for pre-order on 28 March), and today we can officially announce that the gold colour option will be a Vodafone exclusive from launch," the carrier boasted on Monday, March 17.
As a reminder, the new Samsung Galaxy S5 sports a generous 5.1-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, and 2GB of RAM to keep things running smoothly. The handset comes with either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage capacity, as well as a microSD card slot for additional memory of up to 128GB.
Other specs include a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front shooter, among others. Key features consist of a fingerprint reader embedded in the home button, as well as IP67 certification for dust and water resistance. On the software side, the Samsung Galaxy S5 ships with Android 4.4 KitKat on board, with Samsung's own TouchWiz user interface on top.
Vodafone UK has yet to announce what plans it will offer with the handset at launch, and at what prices. With the pre-orders kicking off soon, however, the carrier will likely offer more details shortly. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more.
