Motorola's new Moto G smartphone, which sports a whopping low price tag, will hit the U.S. on Dec. 2, earlier than previously announced.

When Motorola first announced its budget Moto G, the company said that the smartphone wouldn't launch in the U.S. until January 2014, a couple of months after some international markets.

It now looks like that Motorola is in a hurry to make the lucrative holiday shopping season after all, as the Moto G is now set to ship on Dec. 2 in the U.S., the company announced in a blog post on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Interested buyers can order the U.S. version of the GSM Moto G right now from the company's website.

The smartphone comes in 8GB and 16GB internal storage configurations and costs $179 and $199, respectively. It's worth highlighting that these are the off-contract prices for the handset, which make the Moto G one of the most affordable mid-range smartphones in the country.

For those unfamiliar with the device, the Moto G sports a 4.5-inch display with a 720p resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz and 1GB of RAM. Other specs include a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front shooter. The smartphone ships with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box, but Motorola will roll out an update to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat in January 2014.

The Moto G is not a high-end smartphone, but its specs are definitely decent for the price tag it sports. With a $179 starting price unsubsidized, Motorola's new smartphone will be a tough one to beat in its category. Android 4.4 KitKat on a mid-range handset will make it even more appealing.

The Moto X already stirred quite some waves on the U.S. market and its cheaper counterpart, the Moto G, is expected to draw plenty of interest as well. Keep in mind, however, that the version currently available for purchase on Motorola's website is only compatible with GSM networks in the U.S. This means that CDMA providers such as Verizon will need separate hardware for the Moto G to work on their network. The CDMA-compatible Moto G will launch in the U.S. in January.
