The new Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch is now available for pre-order in the UK from Clove for £235 (excluding taxes).

Samsung UK has recently announced prices for its brand new Galaxy Note 3 phablet and Galaxy Gear companion smartwatch, but it's prices are insanely high, especially when compared to the U.S. Consumers were hoping that retailers would offer the new Samsung Galaxy devices for a more affordable price, and now Clove has announced that it started taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Gear.

"Available in a range of 6 colours: Black, Grey, Beige, Orange, Green and Gold, the Galaxy Gear is now available for pre-order at £235 + delivery & VAT where applicable. First stock is due in the last week of September and we are currently expecting all colours to arrive," announced Clove in a blog post on Monday, Sept. 9.

Smartwatches seem to be the next big thing in the tech world, and this trend has quickly got major companies on board. Even heavyweight players such as Google, Apple and others are planning to launch their own wearable technology devices, but Samsung has beat them to the punch with its Galaxy Gear.

The much-hyped Samsung Galaxy Gear marks the company's first foray into the smartwatch marked. Samsung is the world's top Android device manufacturer and its plunge into wearable technology can only mean great things for gadget lovers. Having a Samsung smartwatch on the market is exciting for many, but the gadget only works with the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 10.1 for now. Samsung promised to add support for the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 smartphones soon.

Samsung UK is currently offering a bundle for the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear for a total of £848 (about $1,325), but Clove is selling the smartwatch only separately. The retailer has an offer with the Sony SmartWatch 2 for free with the purchase of a Sony Xperia Z1, but no special offer or bundle for the Galaxy Gear.

Interested buyers will likely hope that Clove will start offering a similar promotion with the Galaxy Gear for free with the purchase of a Galaxy Note 3, or at least offer a bundle of the two, but the retailer announced no such plans so far.

In the meantime, customers in the UK who would like to purchase a Samsung Galaxy Gear can now pre-order the smartwatch from Clove UK. The price including VAT goes up to £282, which is still less than the £299 price tag Samsung UK is charging for the device.
