The new ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7 tablet is now up for pre-order at major US carriers, sporting a very attractive price tag: $149.

The MeMO Pad HD 7 comes from the same company that made the first- and second-generation Google Nexus 7, both of which stirred quite some waves.

While it doesn't sport the high-end specs of the new Nexus 7, the MeMO Pad HD 7 does hold its own in terms of specs and it's virtually unparalleled at its price point. In other words, tablet shoppers who don't absolutely need a Snapdragon S4 processor or a Full HD 1080p display and are instead more interested in saving some money can opt for this cheaper option.

ASUS' new offering is a 7-inch tablet with a quad-core processor, a decent display, good overall specs and a $149 price point. It was originally introduced in June and now it is up for pre-order in the U.S.

The MeMO Pad HD 7's display has a resolution of 1280 x 800, while the processor is a quad-core MediaTek MT8125 clocked at 1.2GHz. The tablet also packs 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.2-megapixel front shooter and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, while battery life should last for up to 10 hours. In terms of connectivity, the slate sports Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and a micro USB port. The 16GB of internal storage can be expanded via micro SD. When it comes to color options, the tablet is available in five versions: gray, blue, green, white, and pink.

"The MeMO Pad HD 7 combines a beautiful glossy cover with a vivid 1280 x 800 display, to create a device you'll want to show off," boasts ASUS on its product page for the tablet. "The 5 megapixel camera on the back records all of the special moments in your life, and the 1.2 megapixel camera on the front provides smooth video calls with your loved ones."

Interested buyers can pre-order the new ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7 already, with shipping expected to occur in the second week of August. The tablet is now up for pre-order at Amazon, GameStop, Newegg and TigerDirect.
