An allegedly leaked Staples memo details "tentative" release dates for the Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile versions of the new Samsung Galaxy S4 flagship smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes as the successor of the wildly popular Galaxy S3 handset, and it is one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2013. While Samsung officially announced the new flagship and its specs, actual release dates were left shrouded in mystery.
Now, a document received by Phone Arena claims that AT&T could unleash the Galaxy S4 on April 26, followed by T-Mobile on May 1 and Verizon on May 30. The allegedly leaked internal memo also unveils that Staples could start taking pre-orders for the handset on Tuesday, April 16.
A different leak from the same publication mentions the same April 16 date for Walmart pre-orders of the Samsung Galaxy S4. AT&T and U.S. Cellular, meanwhile, already confirmed they will start taking pre-orders on the same day. While there's a good chance that this leak is accurate, it's always better to take things with a grain of salt until information is official — in this case, until retailers properly announce Galaxy S4 sales.
Upon announcing its UNcarrier plans a few weeks ago, T-Mobile also revealed that it will stock the new Galaxy flagship smartphone starting on May 1. AT&T, however, did not mention launch details for the handset in its pre-order announcement. Verizon did not even announce its Galaxy S4 yet.
While the purported Staples document lists the already known May 1 launch date for the T-Mobile-bound Samsung Galaxy S4, the other two "tentative" release dates are fresh news when it comes to the AT&T and Verizon launches.
The earliest confirmed release date for the Samsung Galaxy S4 is April 26, and that's for the UK. So far, Verizon's May 30 purported release date is the most delayed, but it doesn't come as much of a surprise. Verizon is notorious for having the most rigorous carrier testing among the top four carriers in the U.S., which might explain why the Big Red will reportedly launch its Galaxy S4 one month later than AT&T. The allegedly leaked Staples memo makes no mention of Sprint's launch plans for the handset.
