Google Play is now one year old and the Internet giant is offering a week of gift cards on all sorts of goodies.

To mark the occasion, Google is offering free gift cards and discounts on music, books, games, music and other things available on Google Play. The Internet giant announced that in honor of Google Play's first birthday, it is offering a week of tempting deals and discounts for content in its media and app store.

"It was just a year ago today that we launched this amazing show on the interwebs to offer the best in digital content," the company proudly proclaims on its Google Play website. "Since the best parties are the ones that send you home with a present, today we celebrate our birthday with a festive goodie bag full of gifts."

Some of the most tempting offers include a 10 percent discount with Hotels.com, 99-cent movie rentals, a $15 gift card from the Google+ Sign-In partner Fancy, free song tracks from The Velvet Underground and LCD Soundsystem, and many others.

Last March, Google re-launched its Android Market under the Google Play brand in a bid to create a more comprehensive venue for music, movies, apps, e-books and more. As part of this effort, the Internet giant also combined its Google Music and Google eBookstore into one single store so consumers could find things more easily.

The one week of promotions to celebrate Google Play's first birthday should not come as much of a surprise, as it falls in line with the company's practices to share its achievements. When the Google Play store reached the 25 million downloads mark back in September, the company offered discounts on a range of popular apps. Google also promoted collections such as 25 must-own movies, "25 albums that changed the world," and 25 banned books.

"It's been an incredible first year and we look forward to sharing the gift of digital diversions for many more to come," adds Google.

As the company is kicking off an entire week of promotional deals on various content, checking the website daily will display different offers. Google also made this promotional video to mark the occasion, showing how some games are celebrating Google Play's first birthday.
