As this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) reaches its final hours, GSMA has announced the winners of the 18 Annual Global Mobile awards at the mega trade show, where Samsung Galaxy S3 won the "smartphone of the year" award, beating Apple's iPhone.
The award ceremony was hosted by writer, actor and comedian David Walliams, who was joined on stage by sponsor representatives from McAfee, Myriad and Telmap. Co-presenters of the award CNBC, Time, and Fortune also made an appearance on stage along with GSMA CEO John Hoffman and the judging panel.
Samsung topped the list of winners with five awards, including the Best Smartphone and Device Manufacturer of the Year awards. Recognizing various governments around the globe for their innovation and leadership in the use of mobile technology in the public sector, GSMA announced the Government Leadership Awards with the Government of New Zealand bagging the Spectrum for Mobile Broadband award and Government of Moldova winning the m-Government Award.
