Watch maker Tokyoflash has unveiled a new gadget this week, adding the Tokyoflash Kisai Maru to its range of uniquely styled watches.

The Kisai Maru watch features a ring on the watch face, joining the minute and hour hands, leaving the face easily readable.

"A combination of edges and circles, Kisai Maru features an intuitive time display in mirrored LCD, framed by a custom designed, aluminium case with a faceted surface and dual color anodized finish," touts Tokyoflash. "Kisai Maru is a creative and functional design that includes time, date, alarm, backlighting and animation."

Design

As Tokyoflash notes, "Maru" means "circle" in Japanese, and the Kisai Maru watch displays the time in a simple curved line. The ring joins the two hands, leaving the inner-facing hand pointing to the hour and the outer-facing hand pointing to the minutes. It's basically like a conventional clock, but with a more appealing design.

The date can be read in the same way - the inner-facing hand points to the month, while the outer-facing hand points to the day of the month. The mineral crystal lens house a mirrored LCD beneath, which features a color tint "that brings the display to life."

Tokyoflash's Kisai Maru watch is made from high-grade aluminum, which makes lightweight and comfortable to wear. At precise angles, the faceted surfaces on the casing create a feeble light contrasting with the minimalistic time display, creating a somewhat futuristic appearance.

Meanwhile, the anodized case and strap come with a satin finish, available in shades of black, silver, or sienna. Each shade also has a contrasting color tone "that runs in a precise groove around the circular display and through the strap."

Functions

In addition to time and date, Kisai Maru has an alarm and EL backlighting, allowing users to view the time at night as well. The watch also features a custom designed animation which makes the display spin and rotate once every five minutes. This function can be turned on and off, as demoed in Tokyoflash's video.

The Kisai Maru watch also comes with an adjustable strap to make it suitable for both small and large wrists. The watch uses a standard CR2025 watch battery, with a claimed battery life of at least 12 months.

Tokyoflash is currently selling the Kisai Maru watch for $109 (€85, £68) until 2:00 a.m. ET Saturday, Nov. 10, after which the price will go up to $149 (€116, £93).
