Samsung recently launched its ATIV line-up of devices, which are powered by Microsoft's latest Windows 8 OS. Now, U.S. carrier AT&T has announced that it would be offering the Samsung ATIV smart PC from Nov. 9.
The Samsung ATIV smart PC "combines the power of a notebook PC and the convenience of a media tablet with a unique and revolutionary convertible design." ATIV is Samsung's new line for Windows 8 products, which include Smart PCs, tablets and the Windows Phone 8-powered smartphones.
"Samsung ATIV smart PC combines premium computing power in an elegant tablet form factor while providing AT&T customers the ultimate in productivity and entertainment features," stated the AT&T press release.
The Samsung ATIV smart PC sports an 11.6-inch HD PLS display. A dual-core 1.5GHz Intel Atom processor powers the device. The ATIV smart PC has 64GB of on-board storage memory, along with the option to expand it up to an additional 32GB via the microSD card slot. The device comes pre-loaded with Windows 8, which can be upgraded to Windows 8 Pro.
Additionally, the ATIV smart PC is backwards compatible and supports "all existing software and applications that run on older windows OS such as Windows 7, Vista, and XP." The ATIV smart PC also comes pre-loaded with a trial version of MS Office 2010.
"We are excited to offer the Samsung ATIV smart PC in stores nationwide ahead of the holiday shopping season," said Chris Penrose, senior vice president, AT&T Emerging Devices. "Connected by the nation's largest 4G network, this Windows 8 tablet gives customers optimized touch interface, instant live tile updates and PC capabilities."
Samsung and AT&T will also be offering accessories like a Stand Dock and VGA adapter, which will be available for $49 and $40, respectively. The accessories will be available online sometime in late November.
The Samsung ATIV smart PC will be priced at $799.99 and will be available from Nov. 9. What's more, for a limited period AT&T has an offer which gives customers "up to $100 off the purchase of any connected Samsung device of lesser or equal value, including the new Samsung ATIV smart PC." The catch is that to avail the offer, customers would need to purchase any Samsung Galaxy smartphone with a two-year agreement (inclusive of qualifying voice and data plans).
