Speculations are rife that Google's Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update will come in Q1 2013, with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 being the first devices to get the latest update.
It is conjectured that Samsung is currently working on the Android 4.1.2 update for its flagship smartphone Galaxy S3. Furthermore, as the Galaxy Note 2 packs Android 4.1.1 out of the box, users will be hoping to get the Android 4.1.2 update on the Note 2 soon after its rolled out to the Galaxy S3.
Additionally, a SamMobile report suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 may see the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update arrive in Q1 2013 making them the first Samsung devices to receive the latest update from Google.
Google unveiled Android 4.2 on Oct. 29, along with the new upcoming Nexus devices. Android 4.2 is an incremental update to 4.1, and brings fresh features like a new keyboard with Swype-like "Gesture Typing", a 360 degrees panorama mode called Photo Sphere in the camera, improved Google Now with extended functionality, and more.
Samsung has not yet confirmed Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for any of its devices, including the Galaxy Note 2 or Galaxy S3. However, the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 being its top-end and most popular devices, it will be expected that the smartphones get the Android 4.2 update first. The Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 have already landed in the hands of millions of users and have received appreciation from both users and tech experts alike. Samsung recently announced that the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 notched up 3 million and 30 million unit sales, respectively, which reinstates the popularity of the two devices.
New Samsung smartphones like the Galaxy S3 Mini and the Galaxy Premier are likely to be next on the list for the Android 4.2 update.
Users may have to wait a while before Android 4.2 gets released and carriers start pushing out the over-the-air (OTA) update to users. With the popularity of Android smartphones on the rise, Google will try to deploy its best in the Android 4.2 and hope to garner an even bigger user base.
