The upcoming release of iOS 6.1 will include a new feature for Siri, which will enable voice-activated ticket purchasing with the help of ticketing platform Fandango, suggest reports.

Reports indicate that developers are beta testing the iOS 6.1 on the latest iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. To buy movie tickets, a user will need to ask Siri to obtain tickets for a certain movie and go through the purchase options.

9to5mac reports that when a user asks Siri for movie tickets for a specific movie, the app shows theater information and timings to the user. A user also gets the option to buy movie tickets by clicking on the buy option and completing the purchase process via the Fandango app from the App Store. In case a user does not have Fandango app installed on the iDevice, Siri also provides an option to download the Fandango app.

"Apple says that the feature is currently exclusive to users in the U.S. Additionally, developers who have used the feature say that it is not compatible with all theaters. Compatible theaters listed by Siri are accompanied by a small movie tickets icon," reported 9to5mac.

Fandango enables U.S. customers to buy tickets to more than 20,000 movie theaters in the country and also offers reviews, celebrity interviews, and trailers. The Fandango mobile ticketing service allows consumers to purchase paperless movie tickets, which are sent to a user's smartphone as scannable barcodes. Currently, movie ticket purchases via a mobile device accounts for 30 percent of Fandango's overall sales.

After the release of Apple's Passbook app in September, Fandango also updated its iOS app to support the Cupertino-based company's new virtual wallet. iPhone and iPod users can add Fandango purchases directly to the Passbook app, then show their iOS device screen to the ticket taker upon arrival at their local movie theater, bypassing the box office line in the process.

Apple launched Siri, its voice assistant application, in the iPhone 4S. Since then, Siri has won over the hearts of many iFans and has become a key app in all later iOS versions. We will have to wait and see if Siri's new feature will attract more consumers to Apple.
