U.S. carrier AT&T has announced the launch date and pricing for its Samsung Galaxy Ruby Pro offering. The phone will be available starting Sunday, Oct. 21, and will set consumers back by $99.99 on a two-year contract.
The Galaxy Rugby Pro phone is a follow-up to Samsung's Rugby Smart. Earlier in September this year, AT&T had announced that the handset would be available in the "coming months" and had not disclosed any pricing details. The carrier had announced the Rugby Pro alongside a few other devices in Samsung's Galaxy line-up like: Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet, the Galaxy Note 2 phablet, and Galaxy Express smartphone.
"The rugged Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro has finally received a release date from AT&T: October 21. That's this Sunday, in case you were wondering. That's when you'll be able to purchase a Galaxy Rugby Pro, that is of course if you have nothing against shelling out $99.99 for the privilege as well as signing a new two-year contract with the carrier," stated an UnwiredView report.
The Rugby Pro is a robust 4G LTE-enabled handset which is built to military specifications," and is waterproof, dustproof, and shock resistant.
"Built to withstand some of the toughest conditions. In military specification tests, the Galaxy Rugby ProTM survived blowing rain and sand, high humidity and thermal shock. It has an anti-scratch touchscreen and backlit keys for easier operation in the rain or at night. And the ultra-fast 4G LTE network and ability to use the phone as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot make it the perfect companion for your travels," states Samsung.
The device sports a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with 800 x 480 pixels resolution. A 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon processor powers the Rugby Pro. The phone has a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with 720p HD video recording and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing snapper. It packs in 8GB of internal storage and runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with TouchWiz. A 1850mAh battery powers the handset which also has an enhanced Push-to-Talk functionality.
Post its commercial release in the U.S. on Oct. 21, the Galaxy Rugby Pro will also head to Canada via carriers Bell and Telus.
