Microsoft is preparing the Surface tablet for release on Oct. 25 with all the advertisements going on. However, there was one major thing missing, and that's the price. Not anymore though, as the company had accidentally leaked pricing of the RT version of the Surface on its Web site earlier.
What you are looking at above is the official pricing of the Surface RT tablet. The rumored $399 price tag has turned out to be only a pipe dream. The Surface RT tablet pricing begins at $499 for the 32GB model without the Touch Cover, $599 for the same 32GB model but with the Touch Cover packaged, and $699 for the 64GB model with a packaged Touch Cover.
If users want to purchase a separate Touch Cover, they should be prepared to cough up an additional $120. However, for those who prefer to have a Type Cover, it will set them back by $130, which is a bit on the pricey side.
Since the leak, Microsoft quickly removed the page. This could be a genuine mistake, or a ploy by Microsoft to see how consumers will gravitate towards the pricing. So far, things are not turning out well, as many are not in agreement with the pricing, which is highly understandable.
Hardware-wise, the Surface RT pales in comparison to the new iPad. This means the cheapest model should have been $399. Time will tell if Microsoft's plan works, but at this rate, it doesn't seem the company is interested in competing with its own offerings, and may leave that up to OEMs.
Update: Microsoft officially confirmed pricing
The pricing is real, ladies and gentlemen. This is no ploy. The Surface RT will go on sale in eight markets: Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and the United States.
