Huawei Mate XT, the newest tri-fold smartphone surprisingly raked over 2.9 million pre-orders in the Chinese market alone. What might have pushed this number to go up could be its interesting teaser reveal.
Just in time for this milestone to happen, Apple is preparing to unveil the newest iPhone 16 model in line with the "It's Glowtime" event on Monday, Sept. 9.
The successful surge of pre-orders for the newest Huawei foldable just came in time amid the hype for the iPhone 16. Just a few days after Huawei released the teaser for the tri-fold handset, it already garnered a staggering pre-orders of over 2.9 million.
Huawei first opened the pre-orders for the Mate XT on Sept. 7 through the official online store. What's more, it's impressive to see that the demand for this specific model is going upward.
CNBC reports that the pre-order period has been running for more than 10 days ahead of the official launch on Sept. 20. Although no pricing has been revealed yet, the unique design of the foldable is enough to convince fans to really invest in it.
Huawei is seen to be one of the most successful smartphone makers in China, according to Techopedia. Canalys, a research firm said that the company has the fourth-largest market share locally. In Q2 2024 alone, it was able to ship 10.6 million devices.
However, Huawei still lags behind Honor, Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo when it comes to local brands, but still, it poses strong performance to foreign brands like Apple and Samsung.
Huawei is undeniably a strong force in the Chinese market, but still, the Mate XT's global availability is still hiding in the shadows. If restrictions are to be applied, it could affect Huawei's shipment for Mate XT. This will be difficult for the company to supply other markets like the US and the UK.
Several industries are claiming that the Huawei foldable will have an impact on the sales of iPhone 16. Given that they will launch closely with one another, people will be torn about what to purchase between the two models.
However, Ming Chi-Kuo says that Mate XT will likely not affect the sales of Apple's next-gen iPhone models.
According to the tech analyst, the shipment forecast for the iPhone 16 lineup is expected to land between 88 to 89 million units this year. If this is accurate, it's a notable increase from 87 to 88 million units. The uptick is driven primarily by higher demand for the standard iPhone 16 model.
Of course, Apple has surprises for those waiting for the iPhone 16. It is expected to pack with AI-powered features on top of other functionalities we can think about. Nevertheless, the Cupertino giant will ensure that this would be a quality successor that will be better than before.
