YouTube Unveils AI Detection Tools to Protect Creators: 'Enhance Human Creativity, Not Replace It'

YouTube's new set of AI detection tools will be rolling out to protect content creators from unauthorized videos created by artificial intelligence.

Since the video-viewing platform mentioned the word "creators," it will cover artists, musicians, athletes, influencers, and others in the same category.

With AI's shocking evolution, you could be surprised that the ads you're seeing in a clip is already AI-generated content. Through this initiative, YouTube aims to combat deepfakes and even synthetic voices that might cause harm to content.

For instance, it could spark misinformation in the audience. These AI detection tools could be the creators' way to safeguard their original works against "modern monsters" in the form of AI content.

(Photo: Rachit Tank from Unsplash) YouTube vows to responsible AI development by announcing the new AI detection tools that will protect content creators plagiarized and AI-generated videos.

It's been quite a long time since we heard about YouTube's Content ID system. Since copyright strikes are everywhere, this was such a great tool to help creators identify and manage the affected material in the videos.

The latest development in this system is its extension, which includes AI-generated singing detection technology. This will enable the platform to identify when AI-generated content replicates someone's singing voice, a growing concern as AI music and synthetic voices become more prevalent.

According to TechCrunch, this expansion is set to be tested with YouTube's partners starting early next year, making it a vital tool in the fight against unauthorized AI-generated music. Using this technology, YouTube aims to offer more robust protection for creators and artists, ensuring their voices are not used without consent.

"...we're developing new ways to give YouTube creators choice over how third parties might use their content on our platform. We'll have more to share later this year," YouTube said in an announcement.

AI Training on YouTube Content

On top of AI detection tools for creators' protection, YouTube also focuses on utilizing the content for AI training purposes. We are aware that some tech giants are using our content without permission. Some content creators do not gain anything from it.

As of writing, YouTube has not yet unveiled a clear plan to solve this problem, but rest assured that the solution we need to see is currently in the works.

As for YouTube, protecting creators' earnings from AI training is essential. Of course, some steps need to be polished first before YouTube officially implements the steps in this regard.

Compensation for AI Music: YouTube's Commitment

So much for the abovementioned plans; YouTube is also pushing to compensate creators whose work was used to create AI-made music. It should be recalled that Universal Music Group or UMC collaborated with YT to present a solution to creators and ensure that they are well-compensated when AI-generated audio replicates their original work.

It's crucial to address that AI misuse is rampant and some people earn money through illegal publishing of content they do not own. In this time and age where AI is like a god to many, YouTube is making a big step to emphasize that its belief still sticks to human creativity and does not entirely replace it.

Back in March, The Verge reported that YouTube allowed creators to self-label videos containing AI-generated materials.
