Samsung has added another new smartphone to its growing portfolio of devices. On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the Korea-based company officially announced the launch of its Galaxy Music smartphone.

"Samsung has announced the launch of GALAXY Music, a smartphone that offers superb sound quality and superb music player features," stated the press release.

Earlier in September, Samsung had released a list of smartphones and tablets which were slated to get the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software update. The released list of devices also included the name of the then unknown Galaxy Music smartphone. Rumors were also rife that the smartphone would launch at Samsung event in Germany on Oct. 11.

Additionally, an anonymous source had divulged the feature and specification details of the device to Web site Sammyhub.

"We heard about Samsung Galaxy Music a couple of days back when Samsung revealed a list of devices that will upgradable to Jelly Bean OS. Admittedly, the name seemed to be related to a portable media player but according to our source, the device is a phone," Sammyhub had stated.

The Galaxy Music, as the name suggests, is a music-centric smartphone that is primarily targeted at music aficionados. The mid-range phone will sport a 3-inch QVGA TFT display with 240 x 320 pixels resolution. The smartphone will also have dedicated button for one-touch access to music tracks.

The Wi-Fi enabled smartphone weighs 3.77 ounces and measures 4.33 x 2.32 x 0.48 inches. A 1300mAh battery will power the device. The smartphone will also pack in 4GB of on-board memory and 512MB of RAM. The Galaxy Music will also have an expandable memory option of up to 32GB, courtesy the microSD card slot. The device has a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera with no flash.

The Galaxy Music will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box and will also pack in Samsung's TouchWiz user interface. However, Samsung fans need not be disappointed as the device will be upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the near future.

"GALAXY Music promises high-speed downloads, abundant memory and Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing everyone to experience seamless music and multimedia applications on-the-go. Furthermore, it features a unique Music Dedicated key that provides quick and convenient access to the music player for the perfect listening experience," stated the press release.

Since music is the USP of this smartphone, it features an FM radio with a built-in FM antenna and a pair of front-facing loudspeakers. Moreover, Samsung has also incorporated advanced audio features like Sound Alive and SRS to improve the sound quality.

The Galaxy Music, according to the press release, also features a built-in WVGA projector and will also be available in a dual-SIM version called Galaxy Music Duos. However, no information on the pricing and release date of the device has been disclosed.
