In August of 2012, rumors circulated that smartphone market leader Samsung was working on three new handsets to add to its Galaxy line-up: Galaxy S2 Plus, Galaxy S3 Mini, and Galaxy Premier. A recent report indicates that the S2 Plus and S3 Mini will be launched soon in Europe.
On Sept. 30, Dutch site GsmHelpdesk.nl reported that both the S2 Plus and S3 Mini smartphones were spotted on the T-Mobile activation system and would likely hit the Netherlands market soon.
"Soon the previously leaked Samsung Galaxy S Plus and the new Samsung Galaxy S III Mini in the Netherlands on the market. This can be deduced from information available GSM Helpdesk features," stated the Web site (translated). "Sources of GSM Helpdesk Netherlands in the TAS system (T-Mobile Activation System ) from T-Mobile, where subscriptions can be activated by the provider, found references to the Samsung Galaxy S Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini."
Korea-based Samsung is yet to confirm or deny the rumors, and current speculations center on whether the phones will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2012.
Tech pundits are of the opinion that the new phones will target the lower-end market and will not sport any iconic or groundbreaking features.
The Galaxy S3 Mini, rumored to be scheduled for launch in December, will sport a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with 480 x 800 pixels resolution. A dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz will power the device. The S3 Mini will likely run the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and will come with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera.
Earlier in August, Jack Gold, an analyst with Gold Associates, told TechRadar that Samsung's purported Galaxy S3 Mini was a possibility. Gold also went on to say that Samsung, in a bid to stay ahead in the smartphone race, would need to up the ante to counter competition from iPhone 5
The other purported device, the Galaxy S2 Plus, is codenamed the "GT-I9105" and is expected to launch in January 2013. The smartphone will allegedly feature a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display with 540 x 960 pixels resolution. The smartphone will likely pack in a 1.4GHz dual-core processor and a1800mAh battery. Rumors claim that it will have 1GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board memory. An 8-megapixel rear-facing camera like Samsung's Galaxy S2 offering is expected. Like the S3 Mini, the S2 Plus will come pre-loaded with the latest Jelly Bean OS.
