Indian Android owners are currently smitten over Xiaomi smartphones. According to research data, the company is trending in India's consumer phone market.
Strategy Analytics' latest report notes that Indian consumers prefer the Chinese brand. A survey conducted over 2,000 buyers showed that Xiaomi is way ahead of its competitors.
Around 26 percent of the participants chose Xiaomi smartphones. Apple and Samsung were in a tie for second place with 12 percent. Motorola had seven percent, Lenovo and OnePlus at six percent.
Micromax held the lowest number with two percent of the total tally. Despite the numbers, Samsung still has the last laugh after having an 18 percent base share. Xiaomi only had 16 percent of India's installed base share according to the data.
In a post from BGR, Rajeev Nair said that this is the first time that Xiaomi ranked that high in surveys. The Chinese company was able to rank itself among the top vendors for the fourth quarter of 2016.
The data showed how much Xiaomi climbed up to the ranks of Apple and Samsung in the past years. The Chinese phone maker was able to grow 125 percent in YoY and 17 percent QoQ in the same quarter.
In the same statistic, Xiaomi was able to gain 10 percent of the market share in the fourth quarter of 2016. In the same report, the company was able to sell 250,000 units of the Redmi Note 4 in 10 minutes after going on sale.
Out of the India's 20 top selling smartphones, Xiaomi has four phones on the list. Still, most people in India still prefer budget function phones over high-end units.
The growing trend shows how popular smartphones are getting in India. Xiaomi has not given a statement about their new achievement. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
