Despite the lack of an official announcement, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 rumor mill is up and running at full force.
While nothing is set in stone yet, tech pundits and zealous Surface fans have been hazarding all sorts of guesses regarding the Surface Pro 5's launch. Here's a rundown of the purported two-in-one detachable device's rumored release date, specs, price, and other details.
Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Date
The internet is rife with a bunch of theories that point to an impending arrival of the Surface Pro 4's successor. Lining with this, some sources claimed that the Surface Pro 5 will arrive alongside Windows 10 Creators Update -- which is slated to roll out April 11 -- since the upcoming hybrid tablet could be running the new OS (operating system).
If this comes to fruition, the Surface Pro 5's launch could be just around the corner, but not everyone seems to give this theory a nod. Microsoft will reportedly be releasing the latest Windows 10 creators update gradually over a period of few months, meaning, it could be months before users might actually be able to download the new operating system.
Not too long ago, AdDuplex posted data (via PCWorld) revealing that the rollout of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update was stretched out to eight months until 90 percent of users were able to download and run the Anniversary Update. The publication believes Microsoft is likely to stick to the same release pattern for its upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update.
The drawn-out release of the operating system was necessary, according to the report. Apparently, Microsoft decided to gradually roll out the update in order to ward off the possibility of its servers melting out. The process will be iterated over a period of several months until all compatible devices that run Windows 10 worldwide get the Creators Update, John Cable, Director of Program Management, Windows Servicing and Delivery said in a blog post.
While some optimistic gadget freaks continue hoping to get their hands on the Surface Pro 5 in Oct. 2017, Microsoft has neither confirmed nor debunked these speculations. Last year, BGR hinted at a plausibility of the upcoming OS coming out during Microsoft's October media event, but since an April 11 launch for the Creators Update has already been reported, this theory does not hold water.
Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Specifications & Price
The Surface Pro 5 is expected to sport a dual display. The rumor stems from a patent application filed by the Redmond-based tech giant in September last year. The dual display patent suggests the hybrid tablet might sport a regular screen, alongside another one made from e-paper (or electronic paper). It is highly likely that the second screen might be designed to control music and games.
The Surface Pro 5 is also rumored to come with 4k video support, 512GB of internal storage and 16GB of RAM. Those looking to get their hands on the new Surface Pro device might have to shell out around $899 or more.
