Apple has recently rolled out a slew of updates for its different operating systems, including the new tvOS 10.2, the highly-awaited iOS 10.3, and a new version of their Apple TV Remote app. The new Remote app version, v 1.1., brings with it a lot of new functionalities, but the most interesting part of the new update is that it finally brings with it the long-awaited support for Apple iPad tablets.

Users who currently own an iPad tablet can finally now use their slates to control their Apple TVs. Aside from just simply controlling their media content, the updated Apple TV Remote app also comes with a number of new functionalities.

The update brings with it a number of changes to the app's user interface, for both the iPad and the iPhone version, as per a report from 9to5Mac. The new UI features a redesigned Now Playing interface that lists a number of relevant information to the media being streamed.

For music, users can now directly view the lyrics and the Up Next playlist right within the app. For movies and television shows, users can now select specific chapters to jump to as well as access different audio and subtitles for each show or movie, where supported. The remote itself on the iPad can also be adjusted by holding down on the buttons to shift it to different areas of the iPad's screen.

According to The Verge, users can also now control their Apple TV viewing by using Siri. The app's UI now contains a microphone button to initiate different voice commands to tell Siri to pause, play, select, and search for different media. This is, of course, a big deal for those who have been waiting for Apple to finally add iPad support for the Apple TV Remote app. The functionality was unfortunately not present in the app when it was launched last year. Those who don't have an iPad are still advised to download the latest update for their iPhone as it does contain a myriad of general performance and stability improvements.
