HMD Global is gearing up to launch its Nokia Android handsets in the US and rest of the world in Q2 2017.
Much to the delight of smartphone enthusiasts, the lauded Nokia brand went Android launching a slew of appealing handsets both in the entry as well as midrange segments. Moreover, in partnership with Finnish handset maker, HMD Global, Nokia breathed new life into the iconic Nokia 3310 and outed the low-priced Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 Androids.
Despite the advent of new phones, zealous Nokia fans are clamoring for a true Android flagship smartphone from Nokia. The Finnish handset has already assured fans that it has more aces up its sleeve for this year, and the second half seems nothing short of exciting with the purported Nokia 7 or Nokia 8 that will allegedly pack a Snapdragon 660 under the hood and sport a Zeiss-stamped camera on the photography front.
Lining with this, Nokia Mobile recently took to its Twitter handle (@nokiamobile) confirming the upcoming worldwide release of its new Android handset along with a feature phone. The company confirmed the devices will arrive between April and June. Furthermore, it added that the phones will be up for grabs online and at select retailers.
The upcoming devices comprise the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6. The handsets are likely to come bearing €139 (about $150), €189 (about $204), and €229 (about $247) price tags, respectively. The Nokia 6 Arte Black will sell for €299 (about $323).
Aside from that, the Nokia 3310 will also be in the offing. The basic phone running on the Nokia Series 30 will cost €39 (about $42). Tech tipster Evan Blass had predicted the launch of the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 at MWC; along with a 3310 revive last month via a tweet. With HMD spilling the beans about the devices' pricing last month, there is a possibility that the company may just be looking to stir excitement among nostalgic Nokia fans about its future plans.
Meanwhile, a cryptic sketch allegedly coming from the drawing board over at HMD has found its way on the internet thanks to a Chinese Nokia-centric source (via Phone Arena). The leaked blueprint hints at a new Nokia (most likely 8 or 9), which seems to feature a rear-mounted dual camera with the Zeiss branding.
Interestingly, the device seems to sport an unconventional shape that does not have the appearance of the rectangular Androids that were unveiled at the MWC 2017. In other words, Nokia could be hard at works on a new flagship, which is not likely to hit the store shelves anytime soon.
