Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has impressively risen among the ranks of global giants. Recently, the company has climbed itself to third place in world's market share. The biggest surprise might be the fact that Huawei reached the feat without the help of the strong U.S. market.

Although the phone-maker was able to slip in America, its presence is hardly felt. The company is now hoping that its partnership with At&T will boost their odds.

Huawei and Google recently collaborated for the Nexus 6P. The phone-maker was hoping that by doing so, it will increase their chances of making it big in the U.S.

Sadly their partnership did not bear any significant increase in their American market share. Conversely, an American carrier policy might have blindsided Huawei's aspirations.

Carriers are not allowed to sell devices with a chipset that has not passed their tests. That's where Huawei is hoping that partnering with AT&T would help them break into U.S. markets. Several sources have told industry experts that the Chinese company is now doing the tests with AT&T.

The first step is to get Huawei's Kirin SoC accredited by the U.S. network provider. Doing so would allow AT&T to sell devices (such as the Mate P9) to several American states. But before rolling out the devices, the phone maker needs to make a deal with the service provider.

Huawei's move might eventually push them further to the top of the smartphone market. Currently, Apple and Samsung are enjoying the top of the list. It's possible that the Chinese phone maker can make that much of a noise. Considering how good their phones are.

The U.S. expansion could make or break Huawei's goal of global notoriety. With how things are going, they are not far behind.

AT&T has not yet released the results of their independent tests for the Kirin SoC. Stay tuned for more updates.
