The Nokia brand is well known for its robust products and is actually one of the pioneers that started the cellular phone industry. However, with the dawn of smartphones, the brand has somewhat disappeared. With HMD Global now having the license to the brand, Nokia is seeing a reemergence in the market, most notably with the recent launch of its new Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and Nokia 3 Android smartphones.
The biggest question, however, is if the brand can still be associated with durability and quality. A YouTuber named JerryRigEverything aimed to answer that question and tested out the brand's latest top-end device, the Nokia 6. The particular YouTube channel is well known for its extreme torture tests of the latest smartphones available in the market. The channel has tested over 60 smartphones since its inception and it is interesting to see how the Nokia 6 fairs in comparison to other devices.
The extensive testing starts off with the typical scratch test, wherein different picks are used with different Mohs scale levels. These picks measure the mineral hardness of the material used on the screen and the Nokia 6's 5.5-inch screen seems to be at par with the rest of the flagship devices available today. The scratch resistance of the Nokia 6 is all thanks to the Gorilla Glass 3 that covers the front side of the phone.
The entire back side of the Nokia 6 is made of aluminum, which means that it will easily get scratched, but that is common with all-metal devices. According to Phone Arena, the biggest advantage Nokia has over other metal phones is that the entire device's frame has been built from a solid block of aluminum, which has been machined, polished and anodized five times. This results in a rock-solid frame, which the tester confirms is one of the most durable devices he has ever put his hands on.
HMD Global previously mentioned that they had to put their devices through 600 different tests before they deemed it worthy to be released. The recent torture test only proves that the company may not have been exaggerating. The Nokia brand is indeed back and in good form.
