Hardcore Android fans are undoubtedly already waiting for the release of Xiaomi's upcoming flagship device, the Xiaomi Mi 6. The new flagship, along with a rumored large screened variant called the Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus, is expected to be unveiled on April 16 at a special event. Before that happens, however, new reports are revealing that Xiaomi may unveil yet another smartphone by the end of the month, namely their mid-end offering the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2.
The recent surge of rumor reports regarding the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 only serves to indicate that the launch of the device may, in fact, be imminent. Previous rumor reports have claimed that the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 may be coming with the unofficial Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset and a single camera setup. However, a report from Xiaomi Today reveals that this might not be the case as the company may opt to retain the original features of the Xiaomi Redmi Pro brand.
The report reveals that the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 may be coming with a MediaTek chip instead of a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The device will reportedly sport the new Octa-core MediaTek Helio P25 chipset, which houses four Cortex-A53 cores at 2.5 GHz and another four A53s underclocked at 1.6 GHz. The chip will be paired with an ARM Mali-T880MP4 GPU to handle the graphics processing.
Additionally, GSM Arena reveals that the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 will still have a dual camera system, much like its predecessor. This move will make the device a true successor to the original Xiaomi Redmi Pro, which was released last year.
The Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 is expected to be released in two versions, namely a variant with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage space and a higher-end model with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The lower-end model will likely be priced at around $230, while the top-end variant will have a $260 price tag.
