New details about "Borderlands 3" have been mined by "Battleborn" players, which appear to be a hidden message pertaining to a character in the upcoming title from Gearbox. The concealed message was transmitted in the form of strange signals while "Borderlands" players were doing new side missions with its latest DLC.
The signals produced this message, according to Twinfinite: Visit Prometea [Promethea]. Children of the Vault. We Are Not on Pandora Anymore. Tannis Is Not What She Seems. Do Not Open the Vaults.
The players relate the message to a key character in the original "Borderlands" named Patricia Tannis. She is recognized for her knowledge on the Vault.
It turns out that the players' interpretation of the message is correct, which is later confirmed by Randy Varnell, the creative director of Gearbox Software. He commended the forum user whatsmynameagain for his ability to decode the signal and interpret the hidden message.
"Borderlands 3" was hinted at the PAX South convention in 2015 and it is now in development using Unreal Engine 4. In a report by Forbes, a demo of how the game will look using the said engine was demonstrated at GDC by Gearbox's Randy Pitchford.
The video is not a game footage from Borderlands 3, but it demonstrates how "the next Borderlands game" will look using Unreal Engine 4. Pitchford uses a specific female character in the demo, but he does not show the face. He even went on tilting the camera so that the character's shoulder pad will conceal her appearance.
The report said that this could mean that the female character is someone that players may be familiar of from the previous titles. The developer is not yet ready to reveal anything about the game's content yet, however.
"Borderlands 3" is expected to launch for PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms but the official release date is still unknown. In the meantime, watch the Unreal Engine 4 Tech Demo unveiled at GDC 2017.
