Square Enix is bombarding fans with updates and things seem to be looking good for the video game developer. After commenting on "Final Fantasy 14's" Nintendo Switch version and announcing the PS4 Pro patch, the developer recently revealed its plans to introduce a new role-playing game, "Project Prelude Rune," and Tokyo-based Studio Istolia will develop it. The president of the new studio is a well-known face. It's none other than Hideo Baba, the brain behind Bandai Namco's popular Tales series. Tales of Berseria is the series' 16th main entry.
According to Polygon, the RPG, titled "Project Prelude Rune," will be a new fantasy game that will unfold across a vast land, teeming with life. The various people on this land are dreamers and are willing to fight for what they consider as just. They are nurtured by the Earth and that's their tale. The name Studio Istolia is stylized derivation of the Greek word for "Story." Square Enix has revealed what the new studio aims to achieve. It will deliver unforgettable stories that will inspire generations of gamers and bring new gaming experiences to everyone.
"STUDIO ISTOLIA further builds on Square Enix Group's vision to create new intellectual properties alongside existing Square Enix studios. Hideo Baba who has over 18 years of experience in game development will serve as the studio head. Hideo Baba is working as the producer of "Project Prelude Rune" as well," reads a statement by Square Enix Holdings.
Square Enix has shared a few concept arts for the "Project Prelude Rune" but has refrained from providing a launch window or the platforms the game will be released on. Meanwhile, the developer made a number of announcements at the "Final Fantasy" Fan Festival in Germany. It revealed important details about "Final Fantasy 14" and the Stormblood expansion. It confirmed the PS4 Pro patch and revealed its plans to bring the game to Nintendo Switch.
"The main limitation [is] that they absolutely don't want to create a boxed off version of the game that can't interact with the others. If that could be overcome then they'd be very interested in discussing a Switch port," said producer Naoki Yoshida, reported by The Sixth Axis.
The "Final Fantasy 14" Stormblood expansion will be released on June 20 for PS4 and PC. Stay tuned on Mobile & Apps for more updates on Square Enix games.
