Watch maker Tag Heuer released the first ever luxury smartwatch, the Tag Heuer Connected, in 2015. It basically looks like an ordinary luxury watch, but is powered by Android Wear technology.
Tag Heuer has teamed up with Google and Intel to produce the Connected watch. This Tag Heuer smartwatch is designed after the company's classic Tag Carrera mechanical watch, so at first glance, people won't notice that it is actually a smartwatch.
The Tag Heuer Connected Watch boasts of specs similar to other smartwatches in the market. It has Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth LE, 4GB of internal storage, and gyroscopic sensors. The Tag Heuer Connected Watch is indeed a very impressive device that boasts of the latest useful technology, but in exchange of these specs, the battery life might not seem attractive to some.
Classic watches' batteries commonly lasts for years, but the Connected watch can only last up to 30 hours of moderate use, basically because it is actually a smartwatch that users need to charge every time the battery drained. Since smartwatches' approximated life span is within two to three years, Tag Heuer offers its loyal customers the service to transform and upgrade their Connected watches into a full mechanical watch for $1,500.
Meanwhile, Tag Heuer has also confirmed that it will soon release the Connected's successor called the Tag Connected Modular watch. This smartwatch will be powered by Android Wear 2.0 and it is expected to be released in March or May 2017.
