Finnish smartphone maker Nokia is expected to unveil its flagship smartphone Lumia 920 along with Lumia 820 at an event with Microsoft on Wednesday, Sept. 5, in New York.

The Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia 920 pack impressive features and is also expected to include wireless charging. Nokia's Lumia 920 sports a 4.5-inch HD display and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM will power the smartphone. The Lumia 920 will also sport an 8-megapixel camera. Users will have 32GB of on-board storage included in the device.

Like the Lumia 920, the 4.3-inch Lumia 820 also has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The handset will offer only 8GB of on-board storage; however, the device will include support for a microSD slot to expand the storage further.

"Lumia 920 wireless charging support will be provided via an inductive method - lining the device up to the contacts on a charging pad. We're told it will support the Qi wireless power standard - making it compatible with other wireless charging products," reported The Verge.

The leaked image indicates that the charging pad is nearly as long as the handset itself, with a single cord trailing off into the distance.

Growing demand, coupled with stiff competition in the smartphone world, is motivating smartphone makers to improve on existing technology and offer something new to the users. Time will tell if the wireless charging feature of the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 gives the company an edge over its rivals.
