Stephen King fans have another book-based film adaptation to look forward to. The upcoming film is based on the novel "Gerald's Game" and is slated for a release sometime later this year.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the Netflix adaption of Stephen King's book "Gerald's Game" will be directed by Mike Flanagan ("Hush," "Ouija: Origin of Evil"). The famed author himself recently saw a rough cut of the film, and he tweeted a glowing review of the "Gerald's Game" movie.
The upcoming film is based on King's 1992 novel of the same name. Netflix's "Gerald's Game" is about "Gerald and Jessie Burlingame, who have gone to their summer home on a warm weekday in October for a romantic interlude. After being handcuffed to her bedposts, Jessie tires of her husband's games, until things take an unexpectedly tragic turn. Still handcuffed, she is trapped and alone. Painful memories from her childhood bedevil her. Her only company is a hungry stray dog and the voices that populate her mind. As night comes, she is unsure whether it is her imagination or if she has another companion: someone watching her from the corner of her dark bedroom." Director Flanagan and Jeff Howard adapted King's novel for the screen.
ComicBook has revealed that filming for the movie began last year in October, and now "Gerald's Game" is currently in post-production. Earlier this month, Dread Central interviewed Flanagan about the film. Flanagan said, "Carla and Bruce [Greenwood] were both amazing - it really is some of the best work I've ever seen from either of them. This has been a dream project for a long time, and I'm thrilled to report that it exceeded even my expectations. I can't wait for it to get out into the world."
The cast of Netflix's "Gerald's Game" includes Carla Gugino ("Watchmen") as Jessie Burlingame and Bruce Greenwood ("Star Trek into Darkness") as her husband Gerald. The rest of the cast also includes Henry Thomas ("Gangs of New York"), Carel Struycken ("Men in Black"), Kate Siegel ("Ouija: Origin of Evil"), and Chiara Aurelia ("Agent Carter").
