Supergiant Games announced that its critically acclaimed action RPG Bastion is now available on iPad, bringing the game to touch devices for the first time. The iPad version is fundamentally the same game that debuted on Xbox Live Arcade and PC, apart from adjustments for the touch screen.

The game supports the iPad's Retina display, perhaps a perfect fit for the game's art style. Screenshots in the blog post announcing the release gave a glimpse of how the game looks. Twenty Game Center achievements and leaderboard support are also included.

The main difference is the aspect ratio: 4:3 instead of 16:9 due to the iPad's screen. "[A]ll the narration, music, artwork, and gameplay" from different versions of the game remains intact.

To control The Kid, the game's protagonist, players can touch to move to a point. Press and hold on-screen to move The Kid and double-tap to roll. Attacks happen automatically when objects and enemies get in range, though players ahve the option to fire manually and switch between carried weapons.

For players who prefer a virtual joystick, the functionality is included in the form of "Classic Controls." This is the layout of a controller on a touch screen; Supergiant Games said the Classic Controls are for players revisiting Bastion on iPad.

New content is in the form of the Stranger's Dream, downloadable content for Xbox 360 and PC, along with updated visuals for the iPad, minor voiceover additions for the narration, "little fixes," and a rebalanced Proven Grounds for testing out weapons. An infinite lives toggle option is also included. Weapons have also seen tweaks to "best fit this platform," referring to the iPad.

In-app purchases do not exist. The only purchase for the game is the soundtrack via a link to iTunes, which developers say has been a consistent request from players.

Bastion for iPad is available now for $4.99. It is also available on Xbox Live Arcade for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15) and PC. The game received critical acclaim during its debut, especially for its narration, combat, and story.
