Game developer Blizzard Entertainment may have laid its plans on the furture of its highly popular video game "Overwatch". It talked about the possibility of the video game to be produced for the big and small screens in the near future.

These are the planned directions of Blizzard's online game that currently has over 25 million players. Stacey Sher of Activision-Blizzard Studios stated the company's desire in engaging to film and television industry.

Sher stated that the company is considering making a major leap to film and television industry, Bitgon noted. This plan of the company is to meet their fans' longing for more contents and topics. "We're going to do more, but we're going to move very carefully and thoughtfully," Sher said.

According to Sher, Blizzard will choose the best medium, whether it will be in the form of film, TV or shorts as long as it gives what could be best for each of the franchise. Aside from Overwatch, big titles from Blizzard might be seen in the big screen or television in the near future such as StarCraft, for one.

There are no reports as of yet if the plans include other franchises like "Diablo" and "Hearthstone" at all. The developer indeed began to look into venturing into films with the "Warcraft" movie that debuted last year.

The movie grossed a total of $433.7 million worldwide against a $160 million production budget. It is the highest-grossing movie of all time that is based on a video game, breaking the record of "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time", according to Gamespot.

Apparently, inspite of its success, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the film would require to generate at least $450 million to break-even, which is about $17 million dollars short. Despite this, it seems like the company has a positive outlook that the film will get a possibility of a sequel.

"Overwatch" is a multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It was released in May 2016 and attracted more than 25 million players.
