The "Skylanders" franchise revealed that there will be no entry to wait for this year. Despite the last title being released over six years ago, the company behind it claims that fans should bear with what is to come within 2017.
According to Nintendo Wire, a recently held investor call unveiled Activision's choice to not add a new "Skylanders" game for the entirety of 2017. However, the company will still come up with more content for "Skylanders Imaginators." More than that, fans can expect a new upcoming mobile game, the details to which are yet to be disclosed.
The recent Twitter post also unveiled the latest milestone of "Skylanders," being the 11th highest selling console franchise of all time. It currently holds a record of 300 million toys sold. Interestingly, while the game is at its peak, the TV show version continues to dazzle. It was confirmed as well that Netflix renewed a third season for the TV show with the same name.
As per Kotaku, "Skylanders" may be looking at launching more toys and digital content for the franchise within 2017. However, the company may be leaning towards a break this year, given that there was an unpleasant experience for the last two game releases of the company.
"Skylanders Superchargers," a vehicle-oriented title launched in 2015, landed blandly among its fans. Even if "Skylanders Imaginators" picked up the pace, it was no longer enough.
The official profile of "Skylanders" stated that it was during the ancient times in which "Mind Magic" was utilized to create the titular Skylands. At the risk of being found by great evil, the Ancients hid that power. Sadly, it was discovered by Kaos who intended to use this force to become the world's greatest villain. Because of this tragedy, the Imaginators must now find a way to extinguish the evil that Kaos induced.
No further details have been revealed about the mobile game or the new content for 2017. Do keep posted for updates.
