Moviegoers loved "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1," and now fans can't wait for the upcoming sequel, which is slated for a 2017 release. Recent reports have revealed that several behind-the-scenes photos featuring the cast and crew of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" have also been released.

According to USA Today, fans of the ragtag bunch of misfits called the Guardians of the Galaxy only have three more months to wait until the sequel hits theaters in America. With that said, Marvel has also released a funny trailer featuring fan-favorite character Baby Groot, who somehow manages to steal the show despite having only one line.

Writer and director James Gunn shared, "The first movie was successful because we took chances and gave people the unexpected. This movie can only really be what it is, Guardians can only be what they are, if they're taking a risk." Gunn added, "It means giving them a much different movie."

In "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," fans can look forward to "bigger sci-fi concepts, new alien worlds to explore" and some new faces such as Peter Quill's, a.k.a. Star-Lord (portrayed by Chris Pratt) long-lost father Ego, an "ancient being" played by Kurt Russell, teased the director. Ego is also allegedly a "living planet."

Russell is excited to play Quill's dad, and the actor shares "Ego is the most powerful character I'm ever going to play." He added, "I mean, he created himself! He's the real deal."

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is set a couple of months after the first film ended, and Quill is still with the gang. However, the ex-convicts are now responsible for raising Baby Groot. Pratt quips, "I don't know if Quill is ever going to be a fully functioning, responsible adult."

Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) "died" at the end of the first movie and was reborn as a sapling. He is now known as Baby Groot. The Guardians must also help Quill, who has decided that he must find his father, Ego, and get some much-needed answers about his past.

The rest of the cast returns and the sequel will include Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, and Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket Raccoon, per Nerdist. Other cast members include Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Chris Sullivan as Taserface, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, and Sylvester Stallone as a member of the Nova Corps.

The behind-the-scenes features the original members of the Guardians, along with a sneak peak at some new allies. In a photo, Baby Groot is shown perching on Raccoon's shoulders, a reversal of their relationship in the first movie where Rocket was usually the one who was riding along Groot. Drax also seems to have a soft spot for Mantis, one of the gang's new allies.
