Skype announced in a blog post that it is introducing photo sharing for its iOS apps, available to download now for iPhone and iPad. Skype is also introducing other improvements to the app.

Photos captured on an iPhone or iPad can be sent to others via Skype. Photo file size is unlimited, so messages will not fail to send or incur overage charges.

Skype also announced that it is improving the performance of the app, a process that began during the "last couple of releases". The last update to the app reduced battery consumption when using the app in the background. In addition to photo sharing, the current update improves the load time for the app and the contact list.

Skype also rolled out a fix in July to fix instant messages being sent to third parties. The bug affected Skype users on Windows (Skype version 5.10), Mac (5.8), Linux (4.0), and Windows Phone (1.2). The bug caused the app to crash, and subsequently cause instant messages to be sent to a different contact after the service reloaded or a different user logged in. The number of users affected was "small" given "the very specific circumstances".

Users can still send photos without Skype, though it may be a question of convenience and whether other contacts use Skype.

Skype is available to download for iPhone and iPad. Skype for iPhone supports iPhone 3G, iPhone 4/4S, and 3rd generation iPod Touches. The update does not have iPad restrictions. iOS 4.3 or later is required on the devices.
