The cast and crew of "Outlander" season 3 ditched filming to save a member of the public who was hurt close to the set in Ayrshire this week. Staff of the blockbuster TV show, which has Dunure transformed into a film set, assisted an injured woman to hospital. Among those on location were stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe.

An unnamed woman, 29, took a fall near Dunure Castle, which currently serves as the backdrop for "Outlander" season 3. An ambulance, along with coastguard teams, rushed to the set but failed to reach the woman on time, who by then was already transported to safety by a TV truck.

Iain Brown, photographer for Ayrshire Post, was on location when the incident took place. The photographer expressed his admiration for the "Outlander" season 3 crew for their professionalism and quick thinking, according to The Daily Record UK.

A spokesman for the Ayrshire rescue team also applauded the crew's efforts, who said their vehicle was unable to reach the patient because the set's terrain, by nature, is hard to reach. "We are extremely grateful to the film crew for their quick thinking and offer of help," the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, "Outlander" season 3 lead Sam Heughan took to Twitter to thank security staff member Franco Ashraf, who apparently was the first to respond when the accident took place. Ashraf, a member of Zion Security & 4x4 (film security firm), humbly replied: "Thanks Sam....always on hand to help....."

Fans of Heughan, who have been patiently waiting for "Outlander" season 3, also commended the security crew's bravery. As of this writing, the injured woman is receiving treatment at the Ayr Hospital.

"Outlander" season 3 has officially began filming at Dunure. The new season is expected to premiere this spring, with the Battle of Culloden in Scotland for Jamie and a flashback for Claire in Boston, USA. "Outlander" returns for its third season on Starz in April 1.
