The iMac line has been ignored for quite a long time now, but it looks like Apple is finally planning to give the lauded brand a much-needed update.
Apple chief executive Tim Cook recently hinted at a looming update for the iconic all-in-one desktop PC. It's been a couple of years since Apple last released an update for the iMac line. It was back in 2015 when the Cupertino-based company introduced a Retina screen to smaller variants of the desktop while gearing up the larger models with Intel's Skylake chips.
Since then, the iMac seemed to have been abandoned, with the all-in-one PC seemingly following the footstep of the now-defunct 11-inch MacBook Air. But fret not, iMac enthusiasts can still look forward to something exciting in near future as Tim Cook has personally debunked speculations about the seemingly fading iMac brand.
iMac 2017 Release Date
Cook stated that the future of the company's desktop computers is still bright despite the rumor mill churning out all sorts of contradictory rumors about the iMac line, MacWorld reported.
The Apple CEO confirmed that desktop is indeed very strategic to the company. Although he mentioned the iMac just once, this is enough to get iMac fans' hopes up. This also added fuel to already burning rumors about the release date, specs and other details of the 2017 model of the iMac.
While some reports suggest that the iMac 2017 will arrive in March this year, other reports point to an Oct. 2017 launch date. More importantly, despite the long wait, it looks like the 2017 iMac would definitely be hitting the store shelves, PC Advisor reported.
Meanwhile, MacWorld suggests the iMac 2017 will be announced during WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) 2017, which is not slated to kick off anytime soon.
iMac 2017 Specifications & Features
The iMac 2017 is expected to boast an array of awe-inspiring specs with some reports claiming that the device will be powered by 4.2GHz Intel Core i7-7700 Kaby Lake chip.
The aforesaid chip will be capable of overclocking to 4.8GHz. It's worth noting that these specs allude to some hefty processing power. There's also hearsay that the chip would be capable of providing an ideal VR experience in the iMac 2017.
iMac 2017 Price
If a Best Buy listing of the new iMac is anything to go by, a 27-inch iMac comprising 32GB of RAM and a colossal 2TB Fusion Drive will be up for grabs for $3,199.99.
This is slightly higher than the current generation 27-inch iMac that packs 32GB of RAM and 2TB of Fusion Drive. However, it still remains to be seen what other upgrades the 2017 variant of the iMac will include and whether or not this is just placeholder text.
