Now that everybody knows that Square Enix is going to adapt Marvel's titanic universe into games, it has raised a very pertinent question - How long can the industry sustain such big budget games? Games are not movies and it has happened many a time that big budget games have failed to get back the money, becoming a nightmare for game studios and developers. Square Enix's plan of teaming up with Marvel points towards a magnanimous project, which will involve a massive budget.

While there are many upsides to this project, if gone wrong, the collaboration may result in utter disaster. The first title has been linked to "The Avengers." It will be co-developed by Crystal Dynamics with assistance from Eidos Montréal. The project is being developed for gamers across the globe and will have every element, moment, characters and environments that fans of the movie franchise have come to love and admire. The project will feature a completely different story though and gamers can enjoy it for years.

According to Forbes, this is going to be a sizeable project and publishers may have to change their investment strategy to accommodate a project of such proportions. Details are still vague though it seems that the success of Marvel movies have given immense confidence to Square Enix for investing heavily. However, games are not movies. The game will require two studios for development and experts worry what will happen if it's not a success. The sheer scale of what this project is turning out to be is a matter of great concern.

It is true that the Marvel universe is a big one and has enough opportunities when it comes to developing games. However, the project also has immense risks involved, which are worrying industry analysts and experts.
